Across Levenmouth, the River Park is becoming more than a green corridor it is an opportunity to celebrate the stories, identities, histories and natural heritage that shape the area.
As part of this we are developing a creative community-led interpretation project focused on the stretch of river between Cameron Bridge and Leven train stations. The aim is to explore how storytelling can be embedded throughout the River Park experience, creating meaningful connections between people, place, heritage and environment.
Through a series of creative sessions, local participants will help shape ideas for future interpretation across the park led by our contractors icecream architecture . This includes exploring opportunities for public art, exhibitions, information boards, temporary installations and a dedicated River Park heritage website.
The project brings together a wide range of interests and disciplines from storytelling, creative writing and graphic illustration to photography, local history, biodiversity and ecology. By combining creative practice with community knowledge, the process will help uncover the stories that matter most to local people and consider how they can be shared with visitors in engaging and accessible ways.
What makes this work particularly valuable is the emphasis on co-creation. Rather than interpretation being designed externally, the project centres local voices, lived experience and community creativity. It is as much about building ownership and pride in the River Park as it is about producing physical outputs.
The River Park itself provides a rich setting for this kind of work. Its landscapes, industrial heritage, wildlife and everyday community use all offer layers of stories waiting to be explored and interpreted and we can't wait for them to be told. We hope to create experiences that encourage people to pause, reflect and connect more deeply with the area and its evolving identity.
Ultimately, the ambition is to help shape a River Park that feels rooted in Levenmouth one where culture, heritage, environment and community are woven together through shared storytelling.
